Italian Donegal Madison Jacket in Tan Herringbone

Todd Snyder

Size

As elegant as casual gets, our Madison Suit Jacket represents the epitome of soft tailoring. Both easy-wearing and sharp, it’s what the Italian courtier, diplomat, and author Baldassare Castiglione must have had in mind when he coined the termsprezzatura to describe effortless nonchalance. It’s crafted from a wool Donegal herringbone made by the experts at Sondrio — it combines the unique flecks of the former with the classic pattern of the latter; think of it as a more polished take on tweed. It has a classic fit, with a natural shoulder and a slightly nipped-in waist. Details include a double vent in the back and a lightweight butterfly lining. There’s also a chest pocket known as abarchetta (Italian for “little boat”) because the sleek curvature of the pocket resembles a small skiff.

Tucked away in the heart of the Alps, the family-run Tessuti di Sondrio mill was founded in 1895 and is one of Italy’s most revered cotton fabric weavers.
