The origins of the Car Coat are in its name: it was originally long, designed to keep motorists warm in early automobiles that were open to the elements. Over time, the term became synonymous with a shorter coat, one designed to hit above the knee. Ours goes a little shorter still, falling just below the waist — and now it’s back for the season in an Italian wool-and-alpaca blend.
