The origins of the Car Coat are in its name: it was originally long, designed to keep motorists warm in early automobiles that were open to the elements. Over time, the term became synonymous with a shorter coat, one designed to hit above the knee; ours goes a little shorter still, falling just below the waist. It’s crafted from a luxurious Italian wool in a classic houndstooth pattern with a rugged, fuzzy look and feel. Design details include a clean, hidden placket, two welt-style hand pockets and a single vent in the back. It’s an easy, chic layering piece: start with a base layer, add a shirt, and move up to a sweater as the temps continue to dip.
Great fabric , poor silhouette.
I love it. The color and the fabric. It’s very well made. Yes, it’s roomy but for me the sloppiness is part of its appeal. I already have a longer topcoat that’s quite fitted. This will better accommodate sweaters and even short jacket. I did buy it at the end of this sale cycle so it was a great deal. Don’t know that I would have paid full price for it. But it’s exactly what I was looking for.
This is a beautiful coat. It's shorter than Todd Snyder's other topcoats, but I'm 5'7" and it's topcoat length for me. I did have to have a tailor shorten the sleeves slightly.
Great fabric but badly cut. Not just poor silhouette but tight in the upper back and shoulders.
